Job Description

The Vice President of Research & Development shall serve on the company’s leadership team, overseeing a growing family of novel process automation devices for cell therapy. This role will perform all aspects required for hands-on product design and development in an entrepreneurial technical organization. The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in mechanical engineering with specific concentration on novel, connected, high-volume medical devices. The successful candidate shall:

•   Provide leadership to a team of highly motivated, world class development engineers
•   Create a culture of innovation and excellence in a fast-paced environment
•   Work with healthcare KOL's to generate and refine product specifications
•   Generate required documentation including timelines, budgets, specifications, testing protocols, failure analysis and for regulatory submissions and internal quality systems
•   Drive efficient manufacturing processes with third-party contract manufacturers
•   Deliver programs on time and on budget to sustain competitive advantage
•   Develop the design quality standards system to comply with industry standards
•   Own the Design Control System to assure complete compliance with all requirements
•   Collaborate on pre-clinical, human factor, and human clinical studies
•   Develop ideas into inventions and prepare patent disclosures
•   Evaluate novel technologies for addition into the company’s portfolio

This position requires a passion for customers, technology innovation, and product and process excellence, as well as a proven track record building and leading high-performing technical teams.


Knowledge / Skills / Experience

•   Strong project management experience, overseeing budgets and timelines
•   Demonstrated ability to deliver on time, on budget in a fast-paced lean company
•   Creative leader able to guide expert electrical, mechanical and software engineers
•   Experience with higher-volume novel clinical products
•   Entrepreneurial with a hands-on mind-set
•   15+ years of experience in medical technology design and development
