Job Description

The Vice President of Commercial Operations will build and manage support functions essential to operationalize productivity in the commercial organization. The role includes providing leadership for key strategic business processes (e.g. pricing, development of market access, trade, and distribution strategies) and operational functions (e.g. budgeting and prioritizing expenses and operations, ensuring product availability, and establishing and developing payer strategy and relationships). The Vice President will help drive the Santen business strategy and will work closely with therapeutic area commercial heads to provide support in translation of the strategy into operational action across the Santen Inc Ophthalmology portfolio.

This position requires a senior level executive professional who can integrate all aspects of commercialization and coordinate with executive & cross-functional leadership and stakeholders to ensure optimal revenue and profits over the life of the company’s asset(s).

Responsibilities:

•Develop the overall pricing/reimbursement, marketing access and trade strategy for all Santen therapeutic franchises (BOTE, FOTE, Glaucoma).
•Establish commercial supply chain, distribution, contracting strategy for medical benefit, pharmacy benefit and surgical business for all Santen Inc ophthalmology portfolio
•Design bio-pharma, pharma, surgical business call center operations programs, manage field clinical advocates to establish Santen Inc products value with Payers
•Provide leadership to national accounts teams; clinic, hospital, commercial, public, federal & distribution channel account teams
•Lead government affairs in all areas of health administration (CMS, FDA, OIG, DOJ, Federal, VA/DOD & Medicaid)
•Oversee market research and analysis to create detailed business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, business development, etc.).
•Responsible for strategic planning and executing of both short and long term revenue deriving strategies for the organization (including pricing, market access, physician reimbursement & channel optimization)
•Responsible for a productive, problem solving and value generating relationship with marketing, sales, medical affairs (as appropriate), supply chain, quality control & quality assurance and other departments.
•Allocating resources within approved budgets and on true growth drivers.
•Oversee and implement data integration plans. Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and oversee reports and presentation to all therapeutic franchise heads and executive leadership.
•Interface with other parts of the company, representing the joint commercial team to matrix partners and the executive team as needed. Keep senior management apprised of any important events that may come up suddenly.
•Directly responsible for managing activities performed by all personnel performing jobs related to pricing, market access, reimbursement, HUB services, patient assistance programs, financial assistance programs, payer management, trade management, commercial supply chain and distribution.
•Responsible for compliant administration of the business plan.
•Solid foundation in understanding and contracting with hospital systems, IDN’s and ACO’s, PBM’s and private payers, Medicare and Medicaid. Previous expertise in setting up HUB services to supply patient services for buy and bill and surgical products.
•Responsible for all CMS requirements related best price and government sunshine law reporting.
•Represent company to the industry through various roles including with trade associations, and patient advocacy groups.
•Establish processes and metrics for shared services to meet internal/external client needs, including negotiating with data supply, case management, claim adjudication and call center vendors.
•Interacts with all payer constituents who reimburse products within the therapeutic franchises.
•Perform other duties as necessary as assigned by management.

Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree required; A Master’s degree in management or MBA preferred.
•At least 15+ years’ commercial operations experience including 5 years’ line management experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ophthalmology experience is required; specialty market experience is required.  
•Proven track record of previous success.
•Recent experience in a commercial leadership role driving a successful product launch, preferably in the ophthalmology therapeutic area.
•In depth knowledge of the eye care market, market dynamics, and future trends.
•Proven ability to build and lead teams.
•Strong negotiation skills.
