Duties/Responsibilities

80% Teaching
-Supervise delivery of and regularly teach in BIOL 1010 (Human Biology), a large-enrollment introductory biology course for non-majors.
-Teach BIOL 3211 (Physiology of Humans and Other Animals) 1-2 times per year.
-Teach BIOL 2012 (General Zoology) approximately once every two years.
-Develop and teach courses that support CBS in providing high-quality classroom education and experiences for students
-Provide course/program development.
-Continue personal growth within the profession, keep current with the field, and broaden knowledge and expertise through reading publications, attending workshops at local and national meetings, presentation at workshops and national meetings.

10% Research
- Engage in research and publication related to teaching and the instructional process, or in basic science.
- Develop funding proposals to advance instruction and scholarship of teaching and learning.

10% Service
- Provide service through participation in governance of CBS and/or the University through membership in committees and leadership in professional organizations.
- Contribute to the development of the profession through participation in national and/or international associations, publication, and/or other related activities.
- Provide guidance to CBS colleagues pursuing similar and complementary projects.
- Advise students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals to promote a quality education.

Requirements

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in biological science plus two years of postdoctoral experience. A strong and broad background in physiology. Genuine interest in focusing on undergraduate teaching and educational/instructional research. Ability to effectively prepare, organize, and deliver course content to students in large classroom settings. Ability to perform high-quality teaching, conduct effective presentations, and effectively meet teaching responsibilities. Ability to stay current on developments in relevant field of study related to course content. Ability to develop clear, reasonably demanding expectations of students and achieve successful learning outcomes. Ability to develop good interpersonal relationships with student and effectively advise students on courses and curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ability to synthesize for students the breadth of physiology, especially of plants and animals, into a single framework and perspective. Experience teaching in large classroom settings while using student-centered teaching methods and demonstrated ability to conduct pedagogical research.
