Main Duties and Responsibilities

Scope

As the Supervisor – Material Control, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensure receipt, inspection, and sampling of incoming materials is handled efficiently and per procedures.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal customers including QA, QC, warehouse, and manufacturing groups.
  • Re-prioritize the team’s workload as the manufacturing schedule requires.
  • Ensure adequate depth on all department responsibilities.
  • Ensure raw material retain samples are processed properly both physically and in SAP
  • Ensure metrics are tracked/reported as required.  Can analyze trends in metrics to propose process improvements and to share practices that lead to success with other groups.
  • Ensure all equipment is current on PM/calibration
  • Problem solve and continually look for process improvements.
  • Support the development plans of the Material Control team members.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

Knowledge

  • Functions as an advisor to a unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations.  Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex problems.

Problem Solving

  • Ability to thoroughly investigate/ perform root cause analysis, identify potential issues and propose solutions through verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and knowledge of when to stop and seek input and approval from management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple variables.

Preferred Education

  • High School diploma required. College degree preferred.  Additional education in life sciences, logistics or other applicable field a plus.

Preferred Years of Experience

  • 5-10 years experience preferred.

Desirable Requirements

Freedom to Act

  • Assignments are received in task-and objective-orientated terms.  Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidelines.  Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units.  Recommends modifications to operating policies.

Impact

  • Ensures that projects and objectives are completed on schedule and within budget.  Erroneous decisions or recommendations or failure to complete assignments would normally result in serious delays to assigned projects resulting in considerable expenditure of additional time, human resources, and funds.

Interpersonal Communication

  • Frequent contacts with internal personnel and outside customer representatives at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling or specific phases of projects or contracts.  Conducts briefings and participates in technical meetings for internal representatives concerning specific operations. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before auditors, customers, or employee groups.

Supervisory / Management Skills

  • Accomplishes results through lower-level employees who exercise some latitude and independence in their assignments.  Often heads a centralized functional activity.
  • Functions as an advisor to a unit regarding tasks, projects, and operations.  Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex problems.
