With minimal guidance, purify, characterize and assist crystallization of integral membrane proteins including GPCRs to support structure based drug design or assay development and compound screening for drug discovery programs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

•   Experimentally establishes purification schemes and performs
hands-on small-scale and large-scale purification to obtain highly
purified membrane proteins for crystallization in a timely manner as
well as to support assay development and compound screening for drug
     discovery group.
•   Develops and incorporates biochemical assays to measure stability
and functionality of purified membrane proteins such as (but not
limited to) protein/detergent/lipid characterization, ligand binding
     and enzymatic assays.
•   Actively supports crystallization of membrane proteins using LCP
     and vapor diffusion techniques.
•   Tests and optimizes expression conditions.
•   Develops and performs hands-on ligand binding assay to
     characterize and screen suitable constructs.
•   Provides input and feedback to molecular biologists, protein
chemists and crystallographers in structural biology group to
improve membrane protein expression and purification,
crystallizability and diffraction quality of protein crystals.
