Job Summary:

The Lead Research Associate is a senior technical specialist and a demonstrated team leader and trainer for the small animal area.  Primarily responsible for performing technical procedures: restrain animals, operate laboratory equipment, collect specimens, and collect data on laboratory animals as specified in study Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in compliance to GLP standards. Supports Study Supervisor(s) and Study Director(s) by performing and assisting with sample and data collection on research studies.


•   Performs standard operating procedures (SOP) & Protocols on study and stock animals, including, but not limited to: clinical observations, food consumptions, body weights, urine collection, administering inject able anesthesia, mating procedures, blood draws (all routes), dose administration (all routes), euthanasia, catheter placement, restraint, enrichment, feeding, food removal, on laboratory animals.
•   Primary oversight on non-GLP or non-study procedures.
•   Records, enters and reviews raw data, study and facility.
•   Sets up for procedures and maintains ancillaries on study animals.
•   Operates selected laboratory equipment (i.e., Glucometer, Harvard pump, Digital Thermometer).
•   Monitors and reports changes in animal behavior or health, and problems with animal rooms (e.g., caging, lights, and temperature) to all appropriate personnel.
•   Maintains general cleanliness and organization of work areas.
•   Monitors and reports study changes to Study Director and all appropriate personnel.
•   Leads and trains staff on procedures as needed.
•   Must communicate effectively with Study Directors and other supporting departments.


•   BS/BA in a scientific discipline preferred. Must have high School Diploma and/or GED required
•   2-3 years experience working with animals in research, or in a regulated environment.
•   Surgical experience a plus.
•   Ability to work independently and problem solve.
•   Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•   LATg certification preferred.
•   Positive attitude and strong team player
•   Must have strong attention to detail
•   Previous GLP experience a plus
•   Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
