Main Duties and Responsibilities
This role can be filled as either Scientist II or Senior Scientist.
This Scientist II / Sr. Scientist position is focused on late stage cell culture process development and will represent the function in cross functional teams within in the Cell Culture & Fermentation Science group within Biopharmaceutical Development in R&D. You will be a scientific leader with a broad knowledge of cell culture process development, media/feed development and optimization, and process characterization. You will be involved in developing and optimizing cell culture processes for the production of therapeutic proteins including mAbs and participating in the transfer of processes to clinical and commercial sites. You will be involved in process characterization work including risk assessment and studying the process sensitivity with respect to various process parameters and their interactions using DOE and statistical analysis. You will be familiar with the principles of scale-up/scale-down, and scale-down model development for cell culture process. Contribute to authoring / reviewing / approving development reports and CMC sections in regulatory submissions such as IND and BLA. Have in-depth knowledge with a good understanding of links within and outside of cell culture to support successful development of late stage biologicals. Collaborate with management and staff to identify and solve scientific and technical challenges of the field that will enable meeting MedImmune portfolio/pipeline goals. Be a matrix leader with no supervision responsibility and will be expected to spend significant amount of time in the Lab.
- PhD degree in (Bio) Chemical Engineering / Biotechnology / Biology or related science / engineering disciplines with industrial experiences in the area of process development.
- Three or more years of experience for Scientist II
- Seven or more years of experience for the Sr. Scientist
- Previous experience with demonstrated accomplishments.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced collaborative environment, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Experiences with evolving late stage development concepts such as QbD and PAT.
- Expertise in process modeling / simulation.
