Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong background in medicinal chemistry to join our team in the pursuit of novel therapeutics for oncology, liver disease, and viral diseases. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in broad areas of medicinal chemistry and lead optimization.  The person in this role will lead an outsourced chemistry team and work with internal scientists to identify development candidates that meet target compound profiles.  

Responsibilities:

•As guided by hypothesis and SAR data, design compounds that optimize potency, selectivity, DMPK, and in vivo efficacy.  
•Lead a group of outsourced chemists at one or more CROs.  
•Plan and guide the execution of the synthesis of complex small molecules.
•Integrate and utilize modern medicinal chemistry principles and tools, including structure based drug design.
•Contribute to writing of patents, reports, and scientific publications.
•Execute inventive contributions towards new chemical target structures, and employ sound judgment in the evaluation and strategic decision making around published literature leads.
•Operate effectively in a small company environment.  

Requirements

•Ph.D. in organic chemistry or equivalent.
•8 or more years of biopharma experience in medicinal chemistry, with major contributions to development candidates.  
•Strong knowledge of DMPK principles.  
•High level of creativity and productivity with strong problem-solving skills.
•Excellent scientific expertise in organic synthesis, familiarity with the current state of the art.
•Experience working with external CROs.
•Ability to champion and drive chemistry efforts into new directions to achieve project milestones.
•Knowledge of process chemistry, while not required, is a plus.  
•Strong evidence of conceptual thinking, active follow through, and vigorous scientific curiosity.
•Proven ability to work well with others in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.
•Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
