As part of our company’s commitment to developing and delivering to the market a suite of high-performance products, we are growing the Assay Development team.  One of our key open positions is for a Senior Scientist, Assay Development.   Candidates most suitable for this role will have a strong background in both biochemistry and molecular biology, ideally with experience in the development of assays, preferably molecular, for diagnostic use.  The individual in this hands-on role will design, perform, and analyze experiments as part of the development, verification, and validation of assays on BioDyn’s proprietary technology platform. This Scientist will also be responsible for performing complementary molecular assays, particularly quantitative PCR.  Importantly, the person in this role will apply creativity and novel approaches to solving problems and meeting challenges in the design and development of assays in close collaboration with hardware and software engineers, chemists, and material scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Directly designs, performs, and analyzes experiments for assay development activities throughout feasibility, design, and development stages of the product development cycle;

•   Plays a key role in contributing to the identification and implementation of novel and improved assays in support of the company’s product development needs and in close collaboration with other key personnel in product development and engineering;

•   Develops and continuously improves a variety of molecular assays, with a particular focus on qPCR;

•   Identifies and provides creative and novel alternative approaches to meeting the challenges intrinsic to the development of the company’s products;

•   Leads and provides support, as necessary, to analytical studies and testing of clinical samples;

•   Contributes to the evaluation of new technologies and their application internally;

•   Partners effectively with other members of the Assay Development team as well as Engineering, Quality, Marketing, and all other groups in support of Product Development objectives;

•   Contributes on an as-needed basis to Design Reviews, Stage Gate meetings, and other processes required to advance through Design Control in support of IVD product development;

•   Effectively communicates experimental findings in written format and in internal company meetings; and

•   Other duties as assigned.


•   Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering or a closely related field, with a minimum of 2-4 years of industry experience.  Candidates with a Master’s degree and 7-10 years of industry experience may be considered;

•   Deep and extensive expertise in assay development, with a preference for molecular assays; complementary experience with immunoassays or biochemical assays preferred;

•   Knowledge of a variety of detection technologies, especially fluorescence-based assays and their use for nucleic acid quantification;

•   Experience in the development of molecular diagnostic products (US FDA 510k/PMA and CE mark) preferred, particularly with a focus on performing analytical studies;

•   Experience in working with cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in complex biological fluids such as plasma and knowledge of issues related to preparation and analysis of macromolecules in these contexts preferred;

•   Well versed in the use of standard statistical packages for data analysis;

•   Understands and applies risk management concepts in areas of direct responsibility; and

•   Strong verbal and written communication skills.
