Job Description

SGI is seeking a Senior Program Manager/Associate Director, Program Management and Research Administration to work with the R&D program teams within the Cell Factories organization. The candidate will have experience managing internally funded and partnered product development programs and will work with the Program Leader to execute integrated cross-functional development plans for one or more programs.

  Together with the Program Leader, the Senior Program Manager/Associate Director, Program Management and Research Administration will assist with the creation and execution on strategic program objectives through effective management of the program team and communication with stakeholders. Exceptional organizational skills, including competence in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio.

  The Senior Program Manager/Associate Director, Program Management and Research Administration will also assist with administration of research activities associated with USG sponsored grants and contracts. This includes PHS/NIH and other USG agency application processes and requires knowledge of research funding administration processes, competitive peer review funding systems, including pre-award and post-award financial operations, policy compliance and reporting requirements.

  Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are essential.

Responsibilities will include:

•   Applying Project Management best practices in the development, initiation, planning, execution, control and closing of projects
•   Performing administrative tasks including creation and maintenance of project plan documents, meeting scheduling and facilitation, including agenda creation and communication and tracking of key decisions and action items
•   Actively communicating and managing relationships within R&D and support functions (e.g. Legal, Finance, BD) to promote understanding, ownership, and support of the project
•   Supporting alliance steering committees and ensuring program objectives and tasks are as set forth in contractual agreements
•   Facilitation of key interdependencies, keeping all stakeholders informed and up to date on project details
•   Representing, in partnership with the Program Leader, the teams and programs at Sr. Management meetings and participating in and/or leading project reviews
•   Significant participation in development of centralized Project Management tool, templates and processes
•   Responsibility for project performance, risk management, financial management and issue resolution at the project team operations level
•   Preparation of monthly progress reports, dashboard updates and adhoc reports as required
•   Possession of excellent prioritization, resource planning and communication skills, as well as the ability to share complex information with a diverse audience at all levels across the organization



•   Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline. Advanced degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered
•   PMP certification desirable
•   At least 8 years of related biotechnology industry experience
•   At least 5 years of project management and/or alliance management experience
•   Proven ability to develop and manage complex project plans, timelines, budgets and critical path tasks is required
•   Must have demonstrated ability in building and driving cross-functional performance teams for gaining consensus in a matrixed organization
•   Understanding of preclinical/nonclinical development and regulatory requirements for biologic/protein products a plus
•   Ability to effectively multitask and advance various projects simultaneously
•   Ability to hold oneself and others accountable for commitments in a productive and assertive manner
•   Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
•   Innovative and collaborative spirit
