Description

Organovo seeks a highly-motivated and experienced engineer capable of providing technical leadership in the development and support of a revolutionary 3D bioprinting technology platform. The individual will report to the Vice President of Systems Engineering, and will work closely with the Manager of Platform Operations and the Project / Program Leaders to support and further develop Organovo’s NovoGen MMX BioprintingTM instrumentation platforms in alignment with the Company’s strategy. The individual will be responsible for developing new product features and capabilities, and will work as a key member of the Engineering Team to steward bioengineering technologies and platform-related instruments through design, development and manufacturing.  The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also provide systems support for internal R&D activities as well as commercial/partnered applications in both US and ex-US markets. He/She will also be involved in the assessment of new technologies for potential integration into the bioprinting platform portfolio, and will be responsible for feasibility testing, prototyping, product development / platform integration and overseeing contract engineering activities for selected opportunities. The individual must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written format, and will be responsible for managing multiple fast paced external contracts to achieve product development goals in a timely manner. He/She will be expected to mentor and develop less senior level engineers with potential for increasing responsibility in a rapidly growing organization.

Requirements

•   M.S. or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum 5+ years of post-graduate experience
•   Preference given to candidates with a demonstrated history of creative and robust hardware and systems design solutions.
•   Minimum 5+ years of industrial experience in the design and development of laboratory instrumentation systems
•   Preference given to individuals with experience developing motion control systems and automated liquid handling systems
•   Experience in managing new product development through external contracts / vendors / partners
•   Experience with instrumentation intended for use in cell biology applications such as cell handling, processing and analysis
•   Special consideration given to individuals with practical experience handling mammalian cells and biocompatible materials and reagents
•   Demonstrated track record of conceiving, designing, and executing experiments resulting in improvements and/or added features on an instrument platform
•   Ability to develop User Requirements, Functional Specifications, Design Specifications and Operation and Maintenance Manuals for new and existing systems
•   Ability to apply GMP principles within the workplace and to incorporate cGMP and regulatory compliance into all assigned project activities
•   Is technically independent and maintains state-of-the-art technical skills.
•   Displays initiative and commitment.  
•   Is able to make independent contributions to the development of new methodologies and new technologies in the bioprinting field.
