Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPI) is currently searching for a Senior Director, Global Marketing for the US office located in Rockville, Maryland. SPI is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative research and development of proprietary drugs to treat gastrointestinal, ophthalmic and oncology-based inflammatory disorders. Sucampo has a marketed product - AMITIZA® - and a pipeline including lifecycle management and clinical development programs. Sucampo is headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, and has operations in Japan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Job Summary

The Senior Director, Global Marketing is responsible for driving the development and implementation of the commercial and marketing strategy. This critical leadership role will be responsible for setting the marketing strategy, reviewing business performance, and proposing targeted solutions. An essential element of success is a demonstrated ability to influence without authority and successfully collaborate and negotiate to align cross-functional and cross-geography interests (e.g. medical, R&D, regional leadership, and country operating units). Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Senior Director, Global Marketing will be a high-profile position with the opportunity to make a large impact at Sucampo.

Primary Responsibilities

•   Create and implement the US marketing strategy (e.g. positioning, messaging, branding, medical education programs, market research)
•   Lead development of the US strategic planning (3 yr./1 yr.), including tactical plans and budget allocation.
•   Review and assess US performance and annual plans
•   Partner with commercial insights to conduct highly innovative research/analytics to help identify key business dynamics, behavioral barriers, segmentation, competitive positioning, and triggers/barriers to patient identification and demand generation
•   Establish process for collection and sharing of best practices
•   Provide direction and leadership for patient identification strategies
•   Collaborate with functions in achieving goals and supporting the progress of the business.

Requirements


1.   Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA)
2.   MBA preferred  
3.   15+ years related experience in the biotechnology industry
4.   Proven, consistent history of high performance regardless of position or company
5.   Significant commercial experiences, with demonstrated success in marketing leadership positions is crucial
6.   Extensive launch experience is essential
7.   Broad base of experiences in marketing, market research, sales, and/or medical affairs is welcomed
8.   Rare disease/high-value biologics experience is important, but not essential
9.   Broad knowledge of geographical market/P&R/macro-level trends that may influence business strategies and results
10.   Strong scientific orientation and background
11.   High learning agility
12.   Prior experience managing people
13.   High level of interpersonal skills and highly adept in both verbal & written communication
