Description

* Provides legal support and drafts agreements and other necessary documents in support of Business Development and Licensing activities for Roche Molecular Diagnostics.  Partners in the general operation of the Business Development and Licensing activities with these groups and other internal stakeholders, including the business and Patent groups.

* Collaborates/interfaces  with other  departments, including regional or global teams to (i) understand business development and licensing opportunities,(ii) develop, maintain and/or improve  a system of documenting business development and licensing activities and procedures are consistently implemented, and (iii) to provide expert legal advice.

* Principal legal consultant to organization on business development and licensing activities.

* Drafts, reviews, and interprets legal memoranda, opinions, contracts, pleadings and other documents.  Conducts legal research, fact gathering and analyses on complex matters in areas of legal responsibility.

* Knowledgeable of related legislative, regulatory and judicial developments and trends that may impact the company and remains current with U.S. state and federal law and regulations applicable to medical device manufacturers.

* Provides general counseling and appropriate other legal service to all levels of the business on any legal issues having a basis in laws, rules or regulations of U.S. regulatory agencies, and coordinates with Roche ex-U.S. legal resources regarding legal issues arising from foreign regulatory agency laws, rules and regulations.

* Manages external resources, including consultants and vendors.

Requirements

Education:

* Juris Doctor

* Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state

* Licensed to practice law in California
Experience:

* At least eight years experience handling business development and licensing transactions in the U.S. in the diagnostics, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industry.

* Relevant experience in a respected law firm and/or multinational corporation, preferably in both settings.

* In-depth experience with the healthcare industry.

* Strong oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain open, candid and trusting work relationships.

* Exhibits a high level of objectivity, integrity, motivation, team orientation, professionalism and trustworthiness, and places a high value on the value of doing business with ethics and integrity.
