The Role

The purpose of Research & Development Information (RDI) is to partner with the three R&D science units, namely MedImmune, Innovative Medicines & Early Development (IMED), and Global Medicines Development (GMD), and support them in delivering the drug development pipeline.

In delivering to this mission, R&D Information requires people with hybrid skill sets of technical ability and knowledge of R&D processes.

Key Accountabilities

The role holder should have a deep knowledge and understanding of R&D in biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical domain to deliver tangible and measurable value to the MedImmune business.  5+ years’ experience in delivering systems supporting biopharma drug development and/or business operations in R&D is required. PMP and/or SAFe certification is desirable. The role will assume a Senior Project Manager / Business Analyst position focused on the RDI delivery of IT solutions via programs/projects and/or services.

Objectives and Accountabilities of the Role:

  • Establish close partnership with the MedImmune scientists and leaders to develop an in-depth understanding of business priorities and early insight into changing needs to inform and shape IT demand.
  • For agile projects, facilitate daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo and retrospective meetings
  • Develop project plans, including activities, resources, costs, roles responsibilities and quality.
  • Manage project budgets, forecasts, tasks, schedules, risks, change management and status to support effective decisions and project reporting (status, risk, issues) to stakeholders and steering committees
  • Identify/manage dependencies among projects or initiatives
  • Manage change to project scope and priorities, ensure that all impacts and changes are approved and appropriately communicated to stakeholders and steering committee.
  • Ensure/develop service transition plans including controlled hand-over into support and maintenance
  • Ensure the project team adheres to all standards, quality and compliance as well as processes, defined technical capabilities and best practices. 
  • Ensure expected benefits realization is consistent with project deliverables and clearly understood by stakeholders and project team
  • Support and reinforce adoption of project management best practices.
  • Typical project costs between $100K - $1M, and teams of up to 10 people
  • Effectively collaborates with vendors, suppliers, IT teams, and business stakeholders
  • Lead efforts in understanding business requirements and can translate business needs into fit-for-purpose solutions with functional and non-functional specifications.  The individual will be leading key projects to deliver the solutions and solve business problems.
  • Stay current with information technologies relevant to supporting MedImmune. Bring forward innovative ideas to the scientific groups for solving challenging problems.  Prototype and be part of the solution for data processing, analysis and workflow automation.  
  • Serve as liaison between R&D and Enterprise IT to resolve issues where needed and drive for improved overall end user experience by being the true advocate for the R&D scientists and being part of the solution in partner with bigger IT community and customers.
  • Support Medimmune scientists use of existing information systems with training and help solving issues.

  • Ensure that validated R&D systems are maintained and kept up to date as determined by relevant company policies

Requirements

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of the processes, stages, activities, and decision points in drug development and manufacturing processes for biologics.
  • Understanding of the interdependencies between the deliverables of the various functions.
  • Ability to apply this knowledge to solve problems and knows when to enlist help from others.
  • Established knowledge of scientific domain(s) and/or some experience in working in the scientific domain.
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical solutions for data management, transformation, processing and analysis.
  • Experienced of working in an Agile team delivering IT solutions and business changes that provide tangible values to business incrementally.  
  • Happy to embrace change and continuous improvement. 
  • Ability to focus on a task while maintaining the flexibility to respond to changes and managing multiple priorities effectively. 
  • A good understanding of the techniques and approaches applied in the scientific area of expertise and how to interpret to derive useful information.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment by following policies and standards and in delivering validated systems.
