The Structural Biology Group at AbbVie is seeking a motivated and talented scientist to join the Crystallization Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting biological macromolecule crystallization experiments in support of structure based drug design. The candidate should be knowledgeable in protein handling, purification and characterization techniques and have excellent communication skills. The individual must be able to work consistently on multiple projects in parallel and be able to adjust to rapidly changing priorities. They should be highly self- motivated, be able to work independently in their area of expertise and contribute collaboratively with a wide range of teams.
Responsibilities
Perform crystallization screening of proteins, protein ligand complexes, biological macromolecules and biological macromolecule complexes.
Conduct optimization experiments.
Identify cryo-protectant conditions and prepare samples for data collection at the synchrotron.
Accurately record and communicate experimental results.
Develop innovative solutions to improve the crystallization process.
Requirements
Ph.D. in biochemistry, life sciences or related field with thesis and 0-2 years experience; Master’s degree with 8 years experience; or a Bachelor's degree with 10 years experience.
Proven hands on experience in protein crystallization. Experience with crystallization robotics and databases.
Knowledgeable in protein handling, purification and characterization methods.
Demonstrated independent thought and creativity in science.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills (oral and written).
Experience with protein construct design a plus.
Experience in X-ray diffraction data collection and structure solution a plus.
Experience with membrane protein crystallization a plus.
Experience in a drug discovery environment a plus.
