Description

Under supervision of the Sr. Director of Laboratory Operations, the Senior Scientist shall function as the study director for non-clinical laboratory studies, and have overall responsibility for the technical conduct of nonclinical safety testing studies according to GLP regulations and represents the principal point of study control.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to: protocol approval, direct supervision of Research Associates, conduct of the study experiment according to protocol, documentation of protocol deviations and amendments, reviewing data, approving data analysis, ensuring accurate incorporation of results and conclusions into the study report prior to submission to the Sponsor, working closely with the Sponsor to complete the study, and archiving of study records.  The Senior Scientist is responsible for meeting study timelines and quality standards, and for training staff scientists in study-related standard operating procedures.  Teamwork, customer service, problem-solving and excellent communication skills are essential as this position provides: (1) timely and urgent coordination of services, (2) routine assessment/ evaluation/communication of status of operational issues, (3) ability to independently identify problems and develop solutions, (4) ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with Sponsors.  

Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:
1.   Ph.D. in electrophysiology, physiology, pharmacology, biophysics or related science, or M.D. with at least two (2) years postdoctoral experience in electrophysiology, molecular biology, or biochemistry of ion channel function.
2.   Master’s degree in electrophysiology, molecular biology or biochemistry of ion channel function, or related discipline and at least four (4) years’ experience in performance and/or supervision of research studies.
