We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist to join our research organization in Indianapolis. This is a hands-on position with responsibility for the design, synthesis, analysis and characterization of polymer-based nanoparticle conjugates.  The ideal candidate will have practical experience in aspects of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, formulation sciences and/or biologic therapeutics, with relevant industrial experience.  The ideal candidate is a strong team player, who enjoys scientific discovery and has the ability to communicate and collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment.

Primary responsibilities of this position will include:

•   Design and execution of synthetic routes to prepare and characterize polymers and polymer-based nanoparticles
•   Conjugation of small molecules to polymer-based nanoparticles
•   Formulation and characterization of nanoparticle drug candidates
•   Optimization of physicochemical properties of targeted nanoparticles
•   Analysis of experimental data
•   Participation on drug discovery project teams, providing expertise regarding chemistry, formulation science and polymer chemistry
•   Contributing to the design, synthesis and characterization of new drug candidates
•   Preparation and communication of research results in both oral and written format
•   Oversight of compound/reagent management; Chemical Laboratory Safety Officer

Requirements

•   Ph.D. in synthetic organic, polymer or medicinal chemistry with five to seven years industrial experience
•   Familiarity with formulation sciences and/or nucleic-acid based therapies is strongly desired
•   Familiarity with relevant biological disciplines and the ability to integrate these disciplines into the structure-based design of new bioactive compounds
•   Proven track record of delivery of therapeutic candidates in the pharmaceutical industry
•   Strong communication skills, good problem solving abilities, and an ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with a diverse team of co-workers.
