Job Description

Amgen is seeking a highly motivated Cell and Molecular Biologist to join the molecular biology group in Biologics Optimization at our state-of-the-art research facility at Amgen headquarters located in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Biologics Optimization group is a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in molecule design, cloning, expression and purification of therapeutic proteins. The group is responsible for the optimization, production, assessment, and selection of large molecule drug candidates.

The Senior Scientist will utilize their deep expertise in molecular biology, including vector design for recombinant protein expression and modern cloning techniques for the creation of complex multicomponent genetic constructs.

Responsibilities:

Independently design and engineer protein and expression constructs for diverse protein classes and expression hosts is desired.

Work with and have familiarity with automation and the ability to design high throughput work streams.

Act as a scientific leader with the ability to drive innovation, lead projects and teams, solve technical problems, and work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Develop innovative technologies to support the molecular cloning group, providing scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participating in internal and external scientific meetings.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience within Biotech/Pharma industry

OR

Master's degree and 5 years of scientific experience within Biotech/Pharma industry

OR

Bachelor's degree and 7 years of scientific experience within Biotech/Pharma industry

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise with high throughput cloning processes and automated liquid handling platforms

Expertise in gene editing techniques

Strong knowledge of successful design strategies for mammalian and prokaryotic expression techniques

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a cross-functional team environment

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication or patent record
