Job Description


Janssen Pharmaceutical, a Johnson and Johnson Company, is hiring a Senior Scientist to be located in La Jolla, CA. The site is looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals in the area of Organic Chemistry/Synthesis development research.

The Senior Scientist will:

• Be responsible for conducting research directed toward the development of efficient routes for the synthesis of potential drug candidates.
• Maintain a close interaction with medicinal chemistry teams and pharmaceutical development scientists.
• Remain conversant with the modern chemical literature, maintain a strong laboratory presence, and play an active role in both local and national scientific communities.
• Possess strong people skills and the ability to thrive in a team and goal driven environment.
• Possess experiences in areas such as asymmetric synthesis, reaction safety, flow chemistry, reaction optimization, synthetic route design, product isolation, and scale-up.
• Work with limited supervision and high levels of autonomy.
• Innovate to manage complex research plans and deliver business results.
• Typically be asked to direct other scientists to accomplish tasks and project objectives.

Requirements


• A minimum of a PhD Degree in Organic Chemistry with 5 years of relevant experience as an industrial process chemist is required.
• Mastery of synthetic organic chemistry skills and analytical chemistry techniques are is required.
• Demonstrated people management experience is preferred.
• Publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals are required.
• Strong people skills and the ability to thrive in a team and goal driven environment are required.
• Position will be based in La Jolla, CA.
