Description

Pacific Biosciences seeks a scientist/senior scientist candidate with molecular biology and instrumentation background to join our applications & collaborations team.   The successful candidate will be responsible carrying out collaboration and application development projects with our SMRT sequencing technology.  The position primarily involves hands-on laboratory work in preparing templates for in-house experimentation, running the PacBio RS instrument, and some analysis of resulting data, with frequent interaction with collaborators and customers. The scientist will be working in a fast-paced start-up environment, interacting with other scientists and engineers from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Responsibilities:    

• Hands on laboratory work preparing samples and running the PacBio RS instrument to execute experiments for collaboration and application development projects.
• Development of standard operating procedure to support application lab
• Presentation of scientific results to both internal and external audiences
• Generation of  sales collateral (e.g, white papers, application notes, scientific publications)
• Day-to-day maintenance of the applications lab, including ensuring that materials are stocked, supporting routine instrument maintenance, and scheduling instrument projects

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a MS or Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific field, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
• Must be technically proficient in general laboratory practices (biochemistry/molecular biology), library construction and operation of robotic liquid handling equipment.
• The successful candidate should enjoy working closely with others as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Excellent record-keeping, organizational and communication skills are required, along with careful attention to detail.
• Ability to balance several projects concurrently
• Operational experience in a clinical environment preferred
• Familiarity with bioinformatic analysis a plus
• Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
