The Department of Bioinformatics at Gilead is seeking a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to lead and supervise a group of talented junior bioinformatics scientists to analyze genomic data (e.g. NGS data) collected from patient subjects enrolled in Gilead’s clinical trials with focus in Oncology, and Inflammation-associated disease areas. The candidate will need to summarize and present genomic results to Gilead’s internal functional teams or publish clinical genomics findings either as a peer reviewed publication or as part of new drug applications/filings submitted to regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions:
• Supervise junior bioinformatics scientists conducting genomic data analyses involving microarray or next-generation sequencing (Exome, Whole genome, and RNA-seq) data from patient samples to support patient stratification and biomarker selection for Gilead’s clinical development programs.
• Supervise bioinformatics team members and aid with the development of bioinformatics software, analysis pipelines, and applications to make genomics results and findings available to research and development groups.
• Initiate and manage both internal and external collaborations.
• Manage various bioinformatics systems and ensure pipeline validation and regulatory compliance.
• Coach and develop junior scientists and staffs within the team.

Requirements


Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computer science, statistics, or a related field with 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience and 3+ year of people management experience.
• Proficient in at least one of following programing languages: C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, or Shell in a Linux environment.                            
• In-depth knowledge of current algorithms and technologies related to next generation sequencing.
• Proficient in statistical data analysis of genomic data using R/Bioconductor.
• Strong publication record in either peer-reviewed journals or FDA application is required.
• Outstanding people management and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork.
• Extensive expertise in cancer genomics or Immunology bioinformatics, particularly related to drug development.
