Job Description

Sutro Biopharma is looking for a talented, energetic individual to join the In Vitro Cell Biology Translational Pharmacology and Preclinical Development (TP/PD) group. The group interacts very closely with all early- and late-stage Research and Preclinical groups to assist with our group’s expertise and talents. Strong interactions with these multi-disciplinary teams are critical for identifying best-in-class drug candidates for preclinical and clinical development.    

Responsibilities:

This position requires a strong background in cell biology for development of antibody-based cancer therapeutics utilizing immuno-oncology based and/or antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) based programs. Relevant experience in either program is required. The candidate must have a minimum of 4-6 years of experience in industry or academia. Post-doctoral candidates may be considered based on their skill sets. The individual will:

•   Act as a major contributing team member on multiple projects driving antibody discovery, lead identification/optimization and preclinical cell biology efforts for drug candidate nomination
•   Independently develop and implement new in vitro cell-based assays for all programs
•   Independently evaluate research literature and internal knowledge to propose solid ideas and experimental plans. May help organize and lead sub-team members for complex experiments.
•   Independently analyze and communicate key scientific data to project teams with clear interpretation of data and proposal of next steps.

Requirements

•   BS/MS, experience in Tumor Biology and/or Immunology with minimum 6 years of experience. Industry experience is preferred, but strong relevant skills from academia will also be considered.
•   Strong understanding about drug discovery process is preferred
•   Outstanding interpersonal skills to coordinate activities within a multidisciplinary team and/or a small team of associate scientist/scientists
•   Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and interpret data and generate, present sound proposals and recommendations for future follow-up studies and strategies
•   Ability to contribute to project teams and clearly define critical paths, milestones and timelines
•   Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and demonstrated ability to present scientific and strategic summaries to working groups is required
•   Participating in designing and executing experiments that support the needs of multiple projects and programs
•   Solid experience in performing biochemical, cell based assays and immunological methods including flow cytometry, ELISA, cell proliferation, cell-killing assays, immunohistochemistry, human immune cell isolation and characterization, T cell and macrophage functional assays
