Description

Located in South San Francisco, California, Stem CentRx is embracing new paradigms and technologies to develop novel and life-changing therapies for cancer.  As part of a talented and multi-disciplinary team advancing an exciting new approach to drug discovery and development, the successful candidate will spearhead execution of Molecular Biology cloning efforts. In this role he/she will: a) serve as a key team member in the production of expression and lentiviral vectors as required by the company, particularly those encoding non-human proteins; b) assist other members of the Molecular Biology group in various analyses of gene expression as required; and c) analyze data and communicate results to the Molecular Biology group and to the company in both oral and written form.  Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a dynamic team environment and aggressively contribute to the company’s growth and mission.

Requirements

•   Ph. D. level scientist with 3+ years, or non Ph. D scientist with 6+ years of molecular biology experience, with preference given to industrial experience or environments requiring significant numbers of construct deliverables on tight timelines
•   Mandatory technical skills include demonstrable proficiency in molecular cloning strategies, particularly in the design of efficient and quick routes to obtaining the desired clones, using combinations of commercial clones, cloning from RNA or cDNA sources, multisite mutagenesis, and/or design of synthetic genes and/or gene fragments as required.
•   Experience purifying RNA and working with RNA/cDNAs as a source of material for cloning required.
•   Experience in working with various public genomic databases, comparative sequence analysis, and a good conceptual understanding of protein domains strongly preferred.
•   Experience with techniques for analysis of expression levels of genes and proteins (e.g., RT-PCR, immunoblotting, flow cytometry) beneficial.
•   Mandatory professional skills include organized and disciplined record keeping, excellent communication skills, an ability to work effectively with others in a dynamic environment, and the ability to self-motivate, multitask, and meet frequently tight deadlines.
