Description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly-motivated research associate to join our natural products group for the discovery of novel anti-infective compounds. The candidate will be responsible for characterization of Actinomycete strains using chemical and molecular fingerprinting. Additional responsibilities include fermentation of secondary metabolites in support of medicinal chemistry and drug development studies using shake flasks including titer improvement studies using design of experiments.
The candidate will also be responsible for executing whole cell and target based screens against small molecules and natural product extracts. The candidate will work as part of an integrated team to guide projects through assay development, screening and secondary assays. They will also be responsible for compiling and analyzing large datasets and presenting results to the project team.

Requirements

Minimum Basic Qualifications:
. B.S with 5-8 years industrial or academic experience in microbiology, biochemistry or equivalent
. Enthusiastic professional with substantial hands on experience in a BL-2 laboratory environment.
. Experience in microbial fermentation, secondary metabolite extraction.
. Ability to compile and interpret data from a variety of sources and summarize results to the project team.
. Responsible for planning for the next set of experiments and identification novel and innovative solutions.
. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds is a must
. Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without the need for sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
. M.S. plus 2-5 years industrial or academic experience in microbiology, biochemistry or equivalent.
. Experience in large scale microbial fermentation
. Experience in laboratory automation, screening, data analysis and troubleshooting.
. Able to independently conduct a broad range of complex techniques within their discipline, and demonstrate and/or teach basic skills to others within group.

Work Environment:
. BL2 level laboratory
. Normal business hours, but may occasionally require off-hours duties
