Senior Research Associate wanted to join our DNA vector construction team. S/he will build QC DNA vectors to engineer crop improvements that will ultimately help feed the world. The successful candidate will use a
combination of traditional cut & paste methods, recombinase-based methods, and seamless cloning of synthetic DNA assemblies for constructing DNA vectors. S/he will work with software and automation teams to implement and improve processes for the construction and tracking of vectors. The individual will assist in developing the next generation of vectors for Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer into plants. Candidate will work to improve the process for efficient production, QC, troubleshooting, tracking, scale up and development of new plasmid DNA vector construction methods. Help draft and follow standard operating procedures and assist in training of others on new methods.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform standard molecular biology methods including: bacterial culture, DNA purification, restriction endonuclease digests, primer design, PCR, gel purification, ligation, transformation, DNA minipreps, DNA sequence analysis, gene synthesis, Gateway reactions, In-Fusion & Gibson seamless cloning. Design, build and QC plasmid vectors in microtiter plate formats. Physically and electronically design and track multiple vector constructions in parallel. Use and maintain laboratory equipment, robotic systems, media and reagents. Maintain excellent laboratory notebooks. Efficiently collect, analyze and maintain data in Excel and internal databases. Maintain effective communication with group members and others within the company.

Requirements

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in molecular biology or related field and 4 to 6 years of industry-related experience required, or equivalent amounts of education and experience. PhD in molecular biology or related field and 0 to 2 years of related experience will also be considered. Must have good proficiency in standard molecular biology techniques. Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, sensitivity to cultural diversity and innovation. Skilled in Microsoft Office, Vector NTI, Sequencher and other bioinformatics tools. A strong ability to interact and collaborate effectively with individuals within and across research areas a must. Strong oral and written communications skills, as well as good data record keeping are essential. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot and solve complex problems in creative and effective ways. Experience in plant biotechnology and laboratory automation a plus.
