Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Biologics Project Management Office supports Global Biologics Operations strategy delivery through leading-edge project, program and portfolio planning, execution, delivery and benefit realization across multiple functions, sites and regions, using robust methodology, tools and expertise.

Position Summary

The Senior Project Manager delivers successful large, complex franchise, enterprise, strategic projects across multiple functions, sites and regions. He/she is accountable for project team execution, processes and capabilities within the Global Biologics Operations Program Management Office (PMO). Interface with manufacturing sites, other functional project managers, other PMO leads, CMC teams, subject-matter experts, key stakeholders, functional leads, contract manufacturing organizations, outside testing labs, site and senior management. Responsible for successful strategic project delivery using appropriate project management tools and methodologies, risk identification and management, stakeholder management and communications, effective project team management, governance, prioritization, resource planning, and monthly reporting for assigned projects. Accountable for identifying and improving practices and processes. Reports to the Director, Biologics Operations PMO.

Responsibilities

 
       
  • You will manage and deliver Global Biologics Operations strategic projects utilizing the PMO project methodology, tools and processes, to meet agreed scopes, timelines, deliverables, budgets, resource estimates, and success criteria. Manage project budgets, expenses and resources to meet estimates and commitments
  •    
  • You will lead cross-functional project teams to deliver successful projects.
  •    
  • You will interface with site heads, functional heads, Site Leadership Teams (SLTs) and other key stakeholders to assure continuous alignment between corporate and site priorities and processes and with corporate strategies and strategic projects.
  •    
  • You will track and report on the progress of assigned projects to the appropriate governance, stakeholders and senior management.
  •    
  • With the project sponsor, present stage-gate reviews, approvals and project updates to appropriate governance forums, steering committees, SLTs, and/or stakeholders. Ensure all key stakeholders are kept appropriately informed of project status at all times
  •    
  • You will train project teams and members as needed on project management tools and governance process to ensure smooth and successful delivery of projects. Advocate for appropriate project management and execution discipline across Biologics to ensure effective and efficient delivery of defined business results.
  •    
  • Responsible for understanding the larger project portfolio(s), resolving potential resource conflicts between projects, and prioritizing appropriately to ensure successful delivery of the franchise/domain strategy
  •    
  • Identify, support and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  •    
  • Coach, develop, mentor and manage direct reports to ensure successful individual performance, career development and diverse organizational talent management. Role model the AstraZeneca values and Operations 2020 Behaviours, and motivates and empowers employees to motivate and empower staff to deliver outstanding performance and customer service
  •    
  • Drive Biologics Operations PMO objectives and supports the broader PMO community.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

Education/Experience

 
       
  • BS in Engineering, Science or related operations field, with 8+ years of Project Management experience
  •    
  • MS, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  •  
 

Required Skills/Experience

 
       
  • 3 years minimum experience in the pharmaceutical, biopharm or GMP industry; must be familiar with pharma or biopharm GMP
  •    
  • Demonstrated track record of success in delivering strategic, complex, cross-functional and multi-site projects on-time, on-budget and to committed deliverables to generate significant business value
  •    
  • Demonstrated mentoring, coaching and people development capabilities
  •    
  • Takes appropriate initiative and accountability
  •    
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communications skills
  •    
  • Strong team management skills
  •    
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast pace

Desirable Requirements

Preferred Skills/Experience:

 
       
  • 5 years minimum experience in the pharmaceutical or biopharma industry in a manufacturing, technical or related role
  •    
  • Technology transfer, manufacturing scale-up or new product launch experience
  •    
  • Manufacturing, R&D, QA or analytical testing experience
  •    
  • Business process design, deployment and change management experience
  •    
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical/biopharm GMP
  •    
  • Experience in a biopharm operations a plus but not required
  •    
  • Experience working globally, leading virtual teams in a matrixed environment
  •    
  • Experience presenting to or communicating with senior management
  •    
  • Project Management certification
  •    
  • Previous experience successfully managing others
  •
