Position description:  The project manager will devise, manage and maintain processes to track, monitor, and address critical cross-functional and departmental team activities.  Will create, maintain, and document development plans.  With development teams, s/he will identify issues and actions that present risks to the projects and identify contingency and mitigation plans.  The successful candidate should be a proactive problem-solver with excellent judgment and strong analytic, communication, leadership and project management skills.

Reports to the VP, Global Clinical Operations

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Establish effective Project team structure defining roles and responsibilities of project team members, and functional area representatives.  Maintain primary responsibilities for project team meetings including scheduling, preparation of agendas and minutes and action items.  Co-ordinate sub-team activities as required.  
•   Assist in the planning and execution of development projects while adhering to budget, scope, timeline and resource requirements.  Help ensure consistent practices across the organization and throughout all phases of the project.  
•   Identify and track critical path issues and activities enlisting key people within the development and regulatory teams to resolve these obstacles in order to expedite drug development process through all phases.
•   Prepare development scenario plans to support decision-making and budgeting processes including timing implications of alternative options.  Develop yearly strategic program and development plans and annual budgets in cooperation with appropriate departments.
•   Establish portfolio management group and conduct periodic meetings aligning portfolio with company goals.  Facilitate process for planning global development and lifecycle management for company products.  
•   Delineate process by which Senior Management provides project plan guidance and, in turn, by which Project Team communicates issues, recommendations and required decisions to Senior Management.  

•   Ensure intellectual property/patent suite associated with given project is captured and maintained.  Track reporting requirements to outside collaborators.
•   Liaise with business development and organize multi-disciplinary teams for compound review as needed.  Support alliance management efforts as needed.


Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

•   Highly effective in setting and meeting personal short- and long-term goals to complete assignments, and will have the ability to anticipate problems relating to projects and to develop and implement solutions
•   Experience heading up and managing cross-functional project teams
•   Broad experience in project management across all phases of global pharmaceutical drug development
•   Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously  
•   Decision analysis experience
•   Facilitate communication in multiple directions

EDUCATION AND SKILLS

•   8-10 years direct PM experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotech development industry.
•   BS, MS, MBA or PhD in Scientific or Engineering discipline; PharmD
•   Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and organizational skills are required
•   MS Project, MS Word, Visio
•   Strong financial acumen; capable of planning and oversight of project budgets
•   PMP Certification a plus
