Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an experienced chemist with an extensive portfolio of demonstrated expertise leading the development of fit-for-purpose manufacturing routes to kilogram quantities of small-molecule pharmaceutical candidates. The job will require both laboratory and office work. The successful candidate must be a superior communicator with experience taking a leading role within an internal team of scientists, as well as planning and managing activities at external research and manufacturing organizations. Hands-on expertise in chemical process development and/or kilo-lab scale-up with emerging knowledge of wider CMC activities and regulatory issues is required.

Requirements

•   Ph.D. in Chemistry (or a related field) and 4-7 years of productive, relevant work experience, or M.S. in Chemistry (or a related field) and 7+ years of productive, relevant work experience, or B.S. in Chemistry (or a related field) and 10+ years of productive, relevant work experience
•   Expert chemist with an extensive record of accomplishments that demonstrates an ability to independently identify and solve tough problems across a number of projects to prepare at least kilogram quantities of small-molecule pharmaceutical candidates within project timelines.
•   A superior communicator with a proven ability to write and review advanced technical documents and present verbally to diverse audiences with confidence and versatility.
•   Expertise in chemical process development and/or kilo-lab scale-up with emerging knowledge of wider CMC activities and regulatory issues
•   Demonstrated ability to make significant strategic and conceptual contributions to projects then design and complete sophisticated experimental programs with a high degree of flexibility and independence.
•   Experience in a leading role within an internal team of scientists, as well as planning and managing activities at external research and manufacturing organizations.
