Senior Paralegal

As a Senior Paralegal, in Gaithersburg, MD, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical role with title of Senior Paralegal operating under the direction of AstraZeneca lawyers. Provide legal support for corporate transactional matters, including Business Development, Operations, and Procurement matters, board and company secretarial support, support for antitrust filings, and the development and maintenance of standard form template agreements.

  • Supports the delivery of legal advice and services to the assigned AZ client area and/or in assigned business area
  • Closely aligns with lawyers and the client group
  • Deals with the legal issues associated with the assigned areas at first line level
  • Focuses on delivering the appropriate level of service, from internal and external resources, at the lowest possible cost
  • Personally handles complex legal matters and innovative business arrangements with oversight from lawyers
  • Collaborates with colleagues from a variety of legal disciplines in the Global Legal team to ensure a seamless service to clients
  • Handles special projects assigned by the Deputy General Counsel
  • Manages document, data and information collection and retention efforts
  • Identifies relevant people in the business to provide information needed to support the company's matters
  • Liaises with the business as needed for support
  • Manages matter related documentation and other information in a simple, meaningful and accessible manner
  • Prepares drafts of routine to moderately complex legal documents and templates (e.g., confidentiality and other types of corporate and commercial agreements) under the direction of a lawyer

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Five or more years of law firm, corporate, or other relevant experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from Wilmington, DE from time-to-time
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent skills with Office 365 software and services, including SharePoint
  • Ability and willingness to be agile and flexible and work across a variety of types of matters
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Problem solving and analytical thinking abilities
  • Ability to collaborate across the team both internally and externally to achieve objectives
  • Strong ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive business information
  • Legal practice experience with a broad knowledge of a variety of legal arrangements

Working knowledge of laws relating to assigned areas

Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biologics industry
  • Paralegal Certification (or other legal qualification with relevant work experience)
  • Skill in analyzing and solving issues related to a wide variety of substantive legal areas
  • Experience maintaining productive and collaborative relationships with internal and external counsel and key stakeholders
  • Experience working in a global legal environment
  • Experience working with different contract management storage solutions
  • General aptitude with IT and a comfort level in working with new technologies and platforms, including cloud-based solutions
