At Sonendo, we’re driven by a passion to transform the way root canal therapy is performed. Our disruptive technology is still in the pre-market stage, but we’re hiring now!  We currently have a need for a passionately innovative scientist who will be able to work in our highly energetic and rapidly evolving start up environment here in Laguna Hills, California.

Specifically, we are looking for an experienced scientist who can help us develop a new obturation (endodontic filling) material and technique to work in conjunction with our endodontic cleaning device. This person should have a proven track record of success in developing polymers, cements, and ceramics and optimizing their rheological characteristics and ideally have experience within endodontic materials, as well as the dental industry overall.

Responsibilities
• Take ownership of developing new endodontic filling material that performs successfully as a companion product to our new cleaning device
• Fully evaluate and assess competitive set within the dental field
• Develop full command of the current IP landscape within relevant field
• Build multiple suggested development paths for new filling material; make recommendations on which path(s) to follow
• Drive initial development of products for field testing and other customer evaluation.
• Interface with academic and other research partners to gather insight and collaboration
• Develop, test, validate, and optimize products and procedures for disruptive medical devices and technologies

Requirements

• 5-7 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of polymers, cements, and ceramics
• Experience and in-depth knowledge of rheology of highly-viscous non-Newtonian materials
• Experience and understanding of self-curing and light curing materials
• Experience with endodontic obturation materials is a PLUS
• Master’s or Ph.D. degree in chemical or material science or related fields

The candidate must have:
• High level of efficiency and multi-tasking skills

• Hands-on work experience
• Excellent communication and team-work skills

The individual must have a high level of energy, work ethic, and initiative. The candidate should also be creative and enjoy working with a small multi-disciplinary team.
