Job Description

Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Community Engagement and Partnership has responsibility for GBT patient advocacy initiatives primarily in the U.S. focused on sickle cell disease (SCD).  Leads engagement of patient advocates, their families and communities about SCD education and disease awareness.  Maintains an ongoing dialogue with patient advocates, understands the priorities and needs of the communities disproportionately impacted by SCD, and implements plans and appropriate budgets to improve care for patients.  Plans will focus on disease awareness and education, treatment education, and opportunities for improving patient and public health outcomes.  Supports the recruitment of patients into current clinical studies, working closely with clinical, clinical operations, and medical affairs.  Manages corporate giving and partners with grant recipients on monitoring and evaluating projects.  Engages patient advocates on advisory boards and gathers patient insight to inform company decision making and represent the voice of patients in company planning.  Collaborates with medical affairs, clinical, commercial, legal and regulatory leadership at GBT in support of the company’s mission.

Job Responsibilities:

   Responsible for leading ongoing dialogue with patients, community leaders, and policymakers about the needs of patients living with SCD and communities disproportionately impacted by the disease.  Effectively engage the appropriate GBT individuals to contribute to stakeholder discussions.
   Manage SCD corporate giving and ensure grants effectively support the community-based work of dedicated patient organizations and individual patients, and improving public health outcomes.
   Participate in the development of patient recruitment strategies and study-specific patient materials that support clinical trial patient recruitment efforts.
   Develop and lead internal GBT engagement programs and activities raising voice of patient
   Represent GBT at key meetings.
   Raise awareness of clinical studies and enrollment opportunities among the relevant patient communities.
   Establish strong ties between the clinical and medical leadership at GBT and patients.
   Establish and continuously build relationships with GBT colleagues.

Requirements

Job Qualifications:

   Bachelor degree is required, and Master or PhD degree is strongly preferred
   Typically requires 2+ years of relevant experience, which includes 4+ years of relevant healthcare experience
   Demonstrated patient advocacy experience
   Ability to interact with senior management and high-profile experts appropriately, and with confidence and ease
   Ability to give formal presentations to internal and external audiences of various sizes
   Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
   Effective people and strong project management skills
   Ability to work cross-functionally to deliver against business objectives
   Knowledge of GBT’s areas of therapeutic focus, specifically SCD, is strongly preferred
   Ability to function at a high level in a team setting whether leading the group or acting as an individual contributor
