Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPI) is currently searching for a Senior Manager/Associate Director, Strategic Business Insights, Forecasting & Analytics for the US office located in Rockville, Maryland. SPI is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative research and development of proprietary drugs to treat gastrointestinal, ophthalmic and oncology-based inflammatory disorders. Sucampo has a marketed product - AMITIZA® - and a pipeline including lifecycle management and clinical development programs. Job Summary

The Sr. Manager / Associate Director Strategic Business Insights, Forecasting and Analytics will be responsible for providing market and analytical support to key organizations and stakeholders in support of M&A / business development (BD) opportunity assessments and analysis, as well as new product planning and pre-launch / commercialization planning including supporting brand strategy, target product profile development, competitive intelligence and data analysis, and supporting primary & secondary market research, including designing and fielding qualitative and quantitative market research efforts.

Primary Responsibilities

•   Support pipeline, BD and out licensing opportunities and assessments:
     o   Assess external assets for commercial potential; support data and competitive intelligence collection to prepare commercial assumptions and top-line forecasts.
     o   Support and help conduct due diligence processes and develop and iteratively refine commercial assessments based on data available.
     o   Assess the relevant therapeutic space, standard of care, competitive environment, and evolving treatment paradigm for the external asset.
     o   Perform analytics to determine current payer environment and propose likely pricing strategy.
     o   Prepare and provide input into presentations on all BD / out licensing opportunities.
•   Contribute to development of product and portfolio analytics, including product / indication forecast models, therapeutic and disease area forecast models, risk assessments, forecasting methodology (e.g. Monte Carlo simulation, risk and sensitivity analyses, Tornado diagrams, etc.).

•   Support new product planning and pre-launch and commercial planning analysis including:
     o   Support pre-commercial planning activities, commercial readiness reviews and strategic and tactical product launch mapping activities associated with late-stage pipeline products, prior to transition to Global Commercial organization.
     o   Support development of brand vision and strategy, target product profile, market and competitive landscape assessments, for both US and ex-US territories.
     o   Prepare plan for data and intelligence collection and analysis (prescription analysis, targeting analysis, market and competitive insights).
     o   Support medical and R&D organization with development of scientific platform and publications strategy as it relates to commercial strategy.
     o   Support additional launch-readiness activities associated with branding and positioning prior to transition to Global Commercial organization.
     o   Develop primary & secondary market research strategies and plans, including designing and fielding qualitative and quantitative market research efforts across various stakeholders including managed markets/payers, physicians and Key Opinion Leaders, patients and advocates.
     o   Support design of forecasting methodologies for pre-commercial products to develop detailed revenue projections and launch sequencing/timing assumptions for all markets and regions (US and ex-US) that will market commercial products.
     o   Support competitive intelligence (CI) analysis and market insight analysis, including CI tracking, media monitoring and conference attendance.

Requirements


Job Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree required; BA/BS in science, finance or related quantitative field is required.
2. Minimum of 7- 10 years of quantitative analysis and strategic/ marketing planning work experience in biopharmaceutical industry or consulting is required.  Work with rare diseases and/or orphan drugs is a plus.
3. Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience for actionable business decisions.
4. Deep analytical capabilities and vast experience with analytical tools and methods and problem-solving skills.
5. Strong quantitative forecasting skills that extend to deep financial and strategic assessment of pipeline, commercial and business development opportunities (i.e. building forecast models and valuations, NPV analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, quantitative risk and decisions analysis, superior MS Excel skills).
6. Knowledge of product development and commercial planning processes for rare diseases and/or orphan drugs.
7. Strong written and oral communication skills including strong presentation development skills.
8. Demonstrated success in strategic planning and cross functional problem solving.
9. Knowledge and understanding of the drug development and commercial planning processes with the ability to maintain sufficient “R&D fluency” to identify commercial implications of early and late stage development decisions.
10. Experience in global pipeline and commercial opportunities assessments.
11. Effective team and project leader abilities with passion for cross-functional collaboration.
12. Well organized, with a strong sense of urgency and an entrepreneurial / creative mind to establish innovative business solutions and concepts.
13. Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and syndicated data sources.
14. Demonstrated ability to develop and apply analytical and research methodologies.
15. Knowledge of wide range of qualitative and quantitative research and analytical techniques and software packages.
16. Demonstrated ability to effectively understand, develop, and maintain procedures necessary to comply with corporate requirements.
17. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and PowerPoint).  Expert proficiency in Excel is required. Access or SQL experience preferred.
18. Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to work in a dynamic environment.
