Main Duties and Responsibilities
This role can be filled as either Senior Legal Advisor or Legal Advisor.
Global Business Planning and Operations is responsible for the efficient execution of business processes for the technical functions (Research and Biopharmaceutical Development) and Operations groups. We support the Procure to Pay process, starting with generation of contracts. As Senior Legal Advisor / Legal Advisor, you will provide the necessary expertise in the drafting and negotiation of contracts in order to appropriately manage business risk.
Job duties and responsibilities will include the following: Draft and negotiate various contract types (e.g., Services, Consulting, Material Transfer agreements, Studentships, Sponsored Research and Collaboration Agreements, and others) using approved templates in accordance with pre-defined target cycle times; Draft contract language and modify template language when appropriate; Review contract drafts provided by third parties for consistency with MedImmune terms and conditions, and redline as needed; Set and appropriately modify priorities based on feedback from internal clients and business needs; Consult with various stakeholders from other departments (Procurement, Legal, and Compliance) as appropriate. Communicate effectively with clients and fellow team members who may lack legal expertise; ; Effectively multi-task in order to progress a large docket of contract requests simultaneously; Assist in training and review of other team members with contract drafting and negotiating; Work with internal business teams on issues and developments related to assigned contracts; Identify opportunities to improve the overall contracting process and related software to increase efficiency and to better manage risk.
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (preferably), (Para)Legal Studies, Business or Finance.
- Minimum 5 years of experience negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, such as CDAs, service agreements, consulting contracts and material transfer agreements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong customer support orientation and ability to explain complex issues in simple terms.
- Thorough understanding of the contract process including contract evaluation, negotiation, approval, tracking and close-out.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to influence and negotiate to a mutually acceptable position.
- Fluent in MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and conversions between them.
Senior Legal Advisor
- Experience in a law firm or corporate (esp. biotech or pharmaceutical)organization.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new software systems and procedures.
Senior Legal Advisor
- Experience with software-related agreements.
