Job Description:  Senior Graphic Designer

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
•   Acts as main resource for graphic design/layout questions
•   Trains other graphic designers, provides some art direction
•   Provides art and graphic design support as well as layout support on MarCom projects as needed
•   Often coordinates  multiple projects while contributing to several other projects
•   Oversees the Graphic Design group’s projects, ensuring that workflow is organized effectively, so that projects can be completed in a timely fashion
•   Designs brochures, flyers, and other collateral that adhere to Clontech styles
•   Draws schematic diagrams, scans images, touches them up, and saves to appropriate formats
•   Creates and edits multimedia Flash presentations
•   Preps final files for printing or slide/film outputs, saves files for archiving
•   Organizes individual and group work flow to ensure deadlines are met without much supervision
•   Anticipates or identifies potential printing or production problems, proposes solutions and implements them
•   Exercises judgment within generally defined practices, styles, and policies to ensure successful completion of assigned tasks
•   Reviews projects to ensure they adhere to company design guidelines and styles and meet project specifications
•   Performs other duties as assigned
Job Complexity
•   Requires a thorough understanding of prepress, printing, and imaging, MM Flash
•   Requires high proficiency in desktop publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite CS4, Macromedia/Adobe Flash, Audio/Video presentation software)
•   Requires excellent design skills

Requirements

Education / Experience
•   BA/BS degree in Graphic Design, Art, or equivalent is required
•   Minimum of 6 years of experience in desktop publishing, layout, and graphic design
•   Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing, using the telephone, voicemail, e-mail
•   Thorough understanding of typography and design concepts is required
•   Ability to perform keyboarding or mouse-driven computer input for at least 6 to 8 hours per day is required
•   Ability to sit at workstation for up to the whole day is required
•   Ability to perform additional hand-intensive tasks such as collating, filing, stapling, hole-punching, and writing is required
