Job Description

A Senior Associate Scientist position is available in the Integrated Discovery and Safety Pharmacology group at Amgen. The IDSP group evaluates new agents for cardiovascular risk and supports the selection of lead candidates, GLP core battery safety pharmacology (SP) studies and the assessment of SP endpoints in toxicology studies. Additionally, IDSP performs and oversees Discovery Research studies in the Cardio-Metabolic franchise (models of cardiovascular disease).


Augment current capabilities, which includes new model development and using advancing technologies.

Work in a matrix environment.

Balance activities on multiple diverse projects, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Perform standard procedures with in vivo studies, study execution, dose administration procedures and specimen collection.

Set up, execute and finalize projects/experiments, including management of electronic notebooks and data spreadsheets, production of slides for data presentations and report writing.

Work independently in the laboratory environment when designing, planning and executing preclinical in vivo experiments in models.


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in physiology/pharmacology or related discipline (biology, molecular biology, pathology, etc)

Research experience and 3+ years of experience in an academic or industrial lab setting

Experience in cardiovascular research

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment that requires cross-functional collaboration.

Experience with data collection and software analysis of cardiovascular endpoints.

Computer skills include use of software for digital data capture and analysis of cardiovascular data, including use of MS Excel.

Basic knowledge of cardiovascular physiology, including ECG and hemodynamic data analysis and data interpretation.

Self-motivated with strong technical skills in cardiovascular research
