Job Description


AGTC is seeking a highly motivated individual to coordinate in vivo pharmacology studies utilizing AGTC’s proprietary recombinant AAV technology.  

Reporting Relationship

The Scientist, Translational Research will report to the Senior Director, In Vivo Pharmacology/Toxicology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•   Review study design, outcome measures, data and statistical evaluation for all in vivo translational studies.
•   Review and understand animal models by academic or CRO collaborators and experimental readouts and technologies deployed (e.g. retinal imaging, functional assessments, immunohistochemistry, other).
•   Be a primary contact with the CRO to manage contract and milestones, and to ensure timely and complete report submissions and adherence to contractual obligations.
•   Assist in IND enabling studies such as toxicology, pharmacokinetics and biodistribution studies for AAV constructs, including study design/protocol, CRO identification and study report reviewing.
•   Participate in the identification and evaluation of the most appropriate cross-species animal models for existing and novel targets in the orphan ophthalmology area, and other disease areas within AGTC focus.

Requirements


Qualifications

•   PhD with post-training experience at least 3 years directing and monitoring translational research studies.
•   Solid understanding of Toxicology/Pharmacology, ideally with 1-3 years of relevant experience in the Pharmaceutical and/or CRO industry.
•   Experience in biopharmaceutical drug discovery, managing the preclinical development of new biological therapeutics and/or pharmaceutical products preferred.
•   Comprehensive theoretical and technical understanding of animal husbandry, and a wide range of in vivo approaches and technologies.
•   Knowledge of laboratory welfare standards (e.g. USDA, AALAC).
•   Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
