Job Description


Nitto BioPharma, Inc., a newly established Nitto company, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Scientist/Sr. Scientist to join our oncology drug discovery research team. The successful candidate will be a critical team member primarily involved in executing pre-clinical molecular oncology studies to evaluate novel drug candidates and treatment modalities.

Nitto BioPharma, Inc., is a biopharmaceutical company focusing on discovery and development of novel RNA-based therapeutics for intractable diseases.  Clinical assets include their first anti-liver fibrosis drug program (ND-L02-s0201), which is now in Phase 1b/2 trials in the US, Europe, and Japan.  Nitto BioPharma is also advancing several pipeline programs for intractable diseases including Oncology, Fibrosis and other infectious diseases.  Along with the establishment of the new company, in mid-2016 Nitto BioPharma moved into our new R&D facility on Science Center Drive in San Diego, California.

Primary Responsibilities:

•   Conduct in vivo oncology studies to evaluate new drug discovery entities for various oncology related projects
•   Work very closely with supervisor to develop, characterize and validate in vivo oncology models to support advancement of various projects
•   Execute, interpret and report in vivo oncology related studies using established methodologies
•   Perform surgeries and imaging to support internal orthotopic xenograft model or other animal model development when needed
•   Supply various types of cultured tumor cells to support in vivo xenograft studies
•   Conduct in vitro assays including RNA extraction & qRT-PCR, Western-blot
•   Maintain accurate and timely study records

Requirements


•   Bachelor of Science degree with10-15 yrs, Master degree with 5-10 yrs and Ph.D. degree with 0-2 yrs industry and/or academia experience in cancer biology, cell and molecular biology, in vivo animal research work or related field in Oncology research  
•   Experience in animal handling, dosing (IV via tail vein, IP, PO, Sub-Q), sampling (cheek bleed, retro-orbital bleed, cardiac puncture), tumor cell inoculation and tumor measurement
•   Strong hands-on in vivo pharmacology skills, including cell line work, preparation of test compounds, dosing, blood and tissue collection for PK and PD biomarker analysis.
•   Experience with in vivo model selection and evaluation; hands-on expertise in orthotopic models is a plus.
•   Experience with nucleic acid based drugs is a plus
•   Excellent oral and written communication skills
•   Knowledge of genomic data analysis/interpretation tools, computer software and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphpad Prism)
•   Ability to work well in collaborative fast-paced team environment
•   Strong attention to details
•   Demonstrate problem-solving and interpersonal skills

Office/Lab environment. Lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear.  They are required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
