Job Description

The Scientist, Prevention will assist in the management of research projects within JDRF’s Prevention program with an emphasis on projects in the fields of the microbiome, bioinformatics and vaccines. The Scientist will build on his/her scientific experience to develop and implement research programs aimed at addressing key scientific and programmatic gaps within the Prevention program. S/he will liaise with both the scientific and lay communities in the management of program activities and will coordinate committees and meetings. The Scientist will be responsible and accountable for establishing and monitoring measurable research milestones from the discovery portfolio and interact within a matrixed team including membership from Clinical Trials Management, Advocacy, Program Administration and Project Management.


• Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree
• 1-3 years of post-doctoral training (or similar) desired
• Knowledge of microbiome, bioinformatics, vaccines, immunology, beta cell biology and/or Type 1 Diabetes research desired
• Knowledge of drug discovery desired
• Ability to work as part of a team in a matrixed environment
• Ability to travel about 20% of the time
• Ability to effectively multi-task and establish priorities to meet deadlines under pressure
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to develop, maintain, and utilize relationships
• Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills
• Excellent written, oral, and communication skills, ability to communicate with scientific peers and the public
