Job Description

Switch Bio, Inc. is an early-stage Bay Area based biotechnology company developing a novel gene-based neuromodulation platform for the treatment of severe neurological disorders. Switch was founded by an experienced and forward-thinking team of scientists, physicians, and biotechnology entrepreneurs including MPM Capital Managing Director, Mitchell H. Finer, PhD.

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic candidate for the role of Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Molecular Biology. Reporting to the Senior Director of Preclinical Research, this is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact as a scientifically driven self-starter in a highly creative and translationally relevant environment.
Day to Day Accountabilities and Opportunities
Work closely with a team of scientists to develop novel neurotransmitter receptors and gene transfer vectors suitable for translational use.                Contribute intellectually and at the bench to the synthesis and high-throughput screening of mutant receptor libraries using rational design and directed evolution approaches.
Generate and manage meticulous method protocols, data, and analysis reports in a clear and highly organized fashion.
Collaborate with Neurobiology Team members on functional screening and validation assays suitable to meet critical strategic and corporate objectives.

Requirements

Previous Experience

Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Molecular & Cell Biology, Synthetic Biology, Structural Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or closely related field is required.
At least 5 years of post-degree research experience in an academic or industrial setting is required.                             Supervisory or project management experience working collaboratively in small teams is essential.                             Strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, and protein engineering is essential.                             Experience generating and manipulating high-complexity DNA libraries via random and site-directed mutagenesis is strongly preferred.                             Experience using high-throughput selection techniques and Next-Gen sequencing to screen mutant libraries is strongly preferred.                             Experience using FACS, FLIPR, and fluorescent functional activity reporters expressed in mammalian cells is preferred.                             Experience using current molecular cloning and gene editing techniques is preferred.                             Experience designing, producing, and using gene transfer vectors (e.g. AAV, LV, HSV, LNP) is preferred.                             Experience performing mammalian cell culture using standard biocontainment techniques is preferred.
Familiarity with QSAR modeling of receptor-ligand interactions.
Familiarity with computational tools to collect and analyze complex data sets.                                                          Our Ideal Candidate
Enthusiastic and self-motivated scientist capable of independently conceiving, conducting, and critically analyzing his/her own work with minimal supervision in a highly focused efficient manner. Strong and concise communicator with the ability to effectively exchange complex ideas across an interdisciplinary group.
Works both collaboratively and independently to lead an agile cross-functional team in support of strategic and corporate goals.
Thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced entrepreneurial setting and fluidly adapts to change as the company grows.
