Description

Responsible to Plan and Carry out laboratory work, to develop and improve processes for new and existing drug candidates and intermediates to meet quality, cost operability, and productivity. Do the in-house production of Lead Candidate to support non-GLP preclinical studies. Supervise RA or Sr. RA or Scientist.

Duties & Responsibilities:

   * Employee will work with Head of Process Chemistry R & D to formulate a plan including goals and resource required for chemical synthesis and process development activities at Cubist.
   * Employee will work to optimize chemical manufacturing processes to reduce COG's.
   * Employee will coordinate a development team focused on scale up optimization, technology transfer from in-house research laboratory to Kg scale at CMO.
   * Employee will work to ensure these activities are completed in a timely fashion to meet Chemistry and Research goals and timelines.
   * Employee will effectively communicate with multiple departments and CMOs.
   * Employee will present project summaries or reports for larger project team meetings, including company-wide project reviews. Comfortable and proficient at communicating at scientific meetings in symposia or other special forums.
   * Employee will prepare and routinely present project summaries or reports for audiences outside the home department. Employee will seek out opportunities to present non-confidential project reports or posters at professional society meetings.
   * Employee will have strong a commitment to his/her projects. Employee will constantly demonstrate his/her positive attitude, reliability, and will strive for scientific excellence. Employee will accept challenges in his/her projects.
   * Employee will be capable of initiating and completing long term projects including supervision.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

   * Ph.D. with 3+ years or 6+ years of industrial experience in Chemical Synthesis and Process Development for Scientist II or Sr. Scientist I, respectively

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

   * Strong experience in providing creative solutions to Process Development problems.
   * Strong knowledge of first principals of organic chemistry reactions and mechanisms
   * Experience in QBD (Quality by Design) approach
   * Established track record of working well in a team setting
   * Familiar with CMO operations.
   * Experience in scale-up and process optimization from bench to pilot plant.
   * Strong presentation and communication skills
   * Proficiency with HPLC, NMR, LCMS, systems

Competencies:

   * Broad range in organic synthesis, polymer chemistry, protein chemistry, scale up development, purification/process development
   * Solid background and demonstrated experience in synthetic methodologies and laboratory techniques
   * The successful candidates should have excellent communication skills, ability to effectively interact with an interdisciplinary team, creativity to solve problems and conduct research with minimum supervision
   * Ability to manage a diverse group of scientists with research projects across multiple areas.
   * Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, team player.
   * Display a high degree of reliability
   * Familiar with GMP operation.

Work Environment:

   * Standard organic chemistry lab; typical reaction scale: 50 mg-2kg
   * Ready to work in cold room occassionally

Physical Demands:

   * Minor lifting of intermediates, glassware and equipment up to 50lbs.
   * Standing at hood for long periods of time
