Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Scientist I in Translational Medicine, you will work in a multidisciplinary matrix environment to help develop testable personalized healthcare and translational strategies focused on understanding molecular heterogeneity of disease and discovering/validating biomarker hypotheses in MedImmune's exciting RIA and Immuno-oncology portfolios.

This role requires the individual to be a well-organized and highly productive scientist that designs and executes experiments efficiently while managing/prioritizing multiple projects in line with the goals of the Translational Medicine team. The successful candidate will have outstanding communication and leadership skills; the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical and product development organization; and experience in driving the publication of key data in top-tier scientific or technical journals.


PhD degree in Oncology, Immunology, or related area or Masters degree with relevant work experience

Masters + 8-10 years experience in academic and/or industry setting

PhD + 0-4 years post-PhD experience

Desired Skills:

  • Strong understanding of cancer biology, immunology, genomics, and biomarker development preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in: multi-color flow cytometry; human tumor immunology; use of human specimens for in vitro/ex vivo experiments; T cell/B cell functional studies
  • Proven ability to generate high quality data and to prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses for internal meetings and publications
  • Experience independently developing and executing scientific hypotheses based on disease pathogenesis and drug MOA in the areas of oncology and immunology
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists internally and externally and communicate results to a diverse cross-functional audience

Job Complexity: Will be required to balance laboratory work, experimental design, and collaborative interactions with matrix teams related to developing biomarkers relevant to immuno-oncology and/or respiratory therapeutic areas. Expected to conduct work independently, with minimal day-to-day supervision, to be self-motivated, and to be willing to adapt to new priorities/responsibilities.
