Responsibilities include:

  • Leading stable cell line development projects to deliver recombinant CHO lines for clinical supply of therapeutic proteins including: expression vector design and construction; cell transfection, sub-culturing and screening of recombinant cell lines; and molecular characterisation of candidate production cell lines.
  • Leading the development, evaluation and implementation of technologies and processes that improve efficiency, performance and capabilities of stable cell line development platforms.
  • Coordination with cross-functional teams across MedImmune to achieve project goals.
  • Keeping line manager and team informed of project progress.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebooks according to MedImmune best practice.
  • Authoring, reviewing and contributing to written reports, procedures and presentations as required.
  • Supporting the Cell Line Development and Engineering team goals and facilities.
  • Implementation of MedImmune’s health and safety practices.

Essential Qualifications

  • Master's degree in biological sciences with 10+ years of experience; PhD strongly preferred
  • Molecular biology relating to expression vector construction and molecular characterization of recombinant cell lines; including vector design, DNA cloning and sequence analysis, Q-PCR for expression analysis, cDNA sequencing, western blotting and flow cytometry.
  • Engineering of stable mammalian cell lines for recombinant protein production; including DNA transfection, cell line selection, screening, subculture and cryopreservation.

Desirable Qualifications

Practical knowledge and experience of any of the following areas:

  • AAV engineering and production
  • Generation of recombinant cell lines suitable for biopharmaceutical manufacture, including using high throughput screening systems such as FACS, cell culture automation or microbioreactor platforms.
  • Systems biology including transcriptome and pathway analysis.
  • Genome editing technologies, such as CRISPR, CRE-LoxP or integrases
