Job Description

Abide Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to contribute to the identification and development of novel small molecule drugs targeting the serine hydrolase enzyme family.  Abide’s mission is to develop innovative medicines that target serine hydrolases, one of the largest enzyme classes in nature with validated, but mostly untapped therapeutic potential. Abide is a privately held biotechnology company. This position will be based in our San Diego, California laboratory.

The successful candidate will design and synthesize potential drug candidate molecules directed towards serine hydrolases.  This chemist will optimize activity using medicinal chemistry paradigms working closely with our biologists as well as design molecules and synthetic methods for preparation by external resources.  In this role, the successful candidate will use synthetic organic chemistry techniques including low temperature inert atmosphere reactions, synthesis of single compounds and chromatographic techniques for purification.  The chemist will perform work independently, use databases and information tools to keep abreast of the medicinal chemistry field of interest and contribute to patent applications and publications.  The successful candidate will also propose and perform independent research directed toward drug discovery.


Experience and education requirements

•   Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience
•   Experience in organic syntheses
•   Excellent oral and written communication skills
•   Strong presentation skills
•   Outstanding problem solving skills, troubleshooting skills and organization skills
•   Proficient in computers and software such as ChemDraw, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
•   Both effective team player and strong individual contributor, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks and deliver high quality results under tight timelines
•   Strong publication record
