Job Description


This job requires extensive experience in various conjugation methods relevant to the conjugation of antibodies and proteins to both biological molecules as well as organic dyes. Clear understanding of chemistry underlying the methods as well as the application of the conjugates in cell biology are required. A minimum of 10 years in conjugation is required, with a background in Biochemistry. Product development in an industry setting of a minimum of 5-10 years is a plus. Development of new conjugation methods and optimization of existing ones. New product development ideas related to conjugations of molecules. Communication with a broad variety of teams in multiple locations. Write and complete documentation. Supervise junior staff as required and train other personnel on new methods as needed for transfer of methods. Troubleshoot various technical problems related to protein and antibody related products. Perform additional duties as assigned.


Conjugation of enzymes and fluorescent molecules to proteins, antibodies, small molecules etc.
Keep detailed records. Assist with the development of standard operation protocols for document control.
Perform Routine cell culture and perform immunocytochemistry as needed
Train other scientists in any newly developed methods for transfer of procedures as needed.
Perform background literature searches.
Maintain/order lab supplies. Maintain lab equipment. Prepare solutions. Maintain Common Lab Areas.
Communicate with members of other departments relevant to antibody characterization.
Follows company policies and practices as outlined in the Handbook and follows guidelines regarding safety as outlined in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals in accordance to the job.
Performs additional duties as assigned.



Education and Experience:

This position requires a Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry or equivalent with a minimum of 5-10 years’ experience. Experience of 5 years in industry is a plus. Must possess a demonstrated working knowledge of broad conjugation principles and the application of conjugated molecules.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required.  Computer entry and/or typing skills are desirable.  Must be able to work in a fast pace environment, multi task, and have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge of conjugation procedures to various molecule types and chemistries
Knowledge of conjugated proteins/antibodies and their applications in Cell Biology and other areas
Knowledge of cell culture protocols and sterile technique
Knowledge of fluorescent molecule chemistries and properties
Knowledge of the in-vitro detection of protein using conjugated molecules
Knowledge of basic enzyme biochemistry
Knowledge of buffer solutions and equipment.
Knowledge of safety and company procedures and practices.
Skills in organization, analytics, and decision making.
Skills in problem solving; including the ability to identify and appropriately evaluate a course of action.
