Description

The Myelin Repair Foundation is seeking a talented scientist to join our Translational Medicine Center.  The Myelin Repair Foundation is an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to the discovery of novel therapeutics aimed at promoting the regeneration of central nervous system myelin lost in Multiple Sclerosis and other demyelinating diseases.  Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to help establish, run, assess, troubleshoot and manage several state of the art in vitro and ex vivo cell culture assays aimed at assessing the capacity of test compounds to promote myelin generation and integrity.  The projects will require expertise in a broad array of techniques, including but not limited to: isolation of primary mammalian cells, sterile culture of primary neural cells, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, automated image analysis, molecular biology, and potentially ELISA-based or other high-throughput assay technologies.  The candidate will work closely with the head and research staff of the Translational Medicine Center and will be expected to learn and perform all current in vitro assays under development.   The successful candidate will be expected to perform and analyze complex experiments and assays, and to contribute to the development, optimization, planning, and supervision of biological assays performed at the center.

Requirements

The candidate should have a Ph.D. with at least 8-10 years of relevant experimental experience and a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.  Previous experience with primary neural cell purification and culture is required; relevant experience may also include expertise in immunostaining, automated microscopy image collection and analysis, and other higher throughput assay techniques.  The candidate should have experience in managing a team of individuals supporting medicinal chemistry driven drug discovery programs. Familiarity with Prism, analysis of dose-response curves, and experience in the quality control of drug screening data are key.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, at both an interpersonal and presentation level, are required, as are an ability to plan and execute multiple complex experiments simultaneously.
