Location: Houston, TX Posted Date: 4/9/2013 Position Type: Full time Job Code: 231244EH Salary: $45,000 Required Education: Bachelors Degree Areas of Expertise Desired: Information Systems

Description

Seeking an entry level programmer for development of the EMEN2 object oriented database and electronic lab notebook system. EMEN2 is written in Python with a BerkeleyDB back-end, and is part of the emerging field of non-SQL, object oriented databases. EMEN2 uses the web as its primary interface, and currently serves research labs around the world with 1000 scientific users. The ideal candidate will have excellent written communications skills, and some experience with web design, web application design, Python and/or data mining. The database is largely used to house image data, so experience with image processing would also be of benefit. We do not expect an entry level candidate to possess all of these skills, so more important than experience is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. We will provide on the job training in the necessary skills. The NCMI is a Biomedical Technology Resource Center funded by the NIH in the area of Electron Cryo-microscopy, and has a diverse staff of 30 scientists, technicians and programmers.
