The Bioinformatics Developer has responsibilities extending to the development of systems software within Medical Diagnostics. Great role that marries software and biology! Additionally, the position may develop distributed software applications for subsystems that enable the business strategic imperatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop robust bioinformatics software solutions to support GE’s Medical Diagnostic activities:

• Work closely with systems teams in requirements gathering and software design
• Interacting with global teams to promote consistency and maximize synergies across common software platforms
• Designing and building strong testing infrastructure to minimize dependency on hardware availability
• Leveraging DFR for software, Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability upstream into the product development life cycle

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or other related fields
• 5+ years of technical experience in the software development
• 2+ years’ experience of combining knowledge of chemistry, physics and/or biology with software engineering to deliver new products
• Experience in object oriented design methodology and various programming languages, including C/C++, Java, PERL and/or PYTHON.
• Working knowledge in configuration management tools

DESIRED:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or other related fields
• Experience working with “-omics” data sets (NGS, microarray, etc.)
• Experience with high performance and/or parallel computing
• Experience with statistical programming languages (e.g. R, MATLAB)
• 5+ years’ experience developing software for complex systems
• Experience in software platform, advanced applications, user-interface design and/or systems engineering
• Experience in platform and application development
• Team leadership experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of Quality, Tools and/or LEAN processes
