AstraZeneca holds a unique position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel combinations, biologics and devices. The pipeline also has a number of promising assets in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases within areas such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead is responsible for the execution of Medical Affairs strategy in support of the organization
’s business strategy and objectives. As the Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead you are also accountable for leading and managing Field Medical Affairs resources in collaboration with Medical Affairs Leadership.
The Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead will develop and lead field-based Respiratory Medical Science Liaison (MSL) teams in support of therapeutic area and brand medical plans. The Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead will ensure MSL teams deliver customer outcomes through execution of Medical Affairs deliverables for assigned brands(s) and contribute as a member of Medical Affairs workstream(s) representing field and customer perspective.
Additional accountabilities will include providing guidance on collection of medical insight and communicate actionable items to internal stakeholders as appropriate; lead and manage change initiatives as needed in the field to enable positive business outcomes; serve as a role model fostering personal accountability and ownership of individual and team success; manage performance of direct reports – including recruiting, hiring and retention.
The Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead will also facilitate scientific and skill training as well as professional development for direct reports while also providing timely feedback and coaching to MSLs to improve performance and business impact.
As the Respiratory Regional Liaison Lead, you will also foster a culture of innovation and collaboration; manage and oversee team financial resources and oversee direct report compliance with all guidelines and policies.
- Doctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent degree or experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical industry preferably leading Field Medical Affairs teams or as member of a Field Medical Affairs team with strong leadership capabilities
- Experience in product launch development and execution
- Experience with product strategy development and execution
- Demonstrated expertise in drug information communication
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit
- Thorough knowledge of FDA requirements
of health economic principles and clinical trials
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel
- Ideal locations are St. Louis or Dallas or Denver or Seattle or Phoenix
- Previous management experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development
- 3-4 years of pharmaceutical Medical Science Liaison experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience in Respiratory (academia, pharmaceutical, or other)
