North American Commercial is the ‘face’ of AstraZeneca and MedImmune to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals.

AstraZeneca holds a unique position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel combinations, biologics and devices. The pipeline also has a number of promising assets in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases within areas such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis

As a member of the Access Strategy Respiratory Biologics team , the individual in this position will be responsible for overseeing activities related to the HCP contracting of AstraZeneca Respiratory Biologics and achievement of associated management objectives. The Respiratory Biologics Director (RBD) is expected to oversee a team of Respiratory Biologic Managers (RBMs) and serve as the critical business link relevant to the execution of respiratory biologic products to targeted Buy & Bill Respiratory physicians, key opinion leaders and/or alternative sites of care. These customers include, but are not limited to Pulmonologist, Allergist, Pharmacists, Practice Administrators, and practice business leadership. Appropriate collaboration and utilization of home office personnel will also be critical to success. They will maintain an open line of communication with stakeholders such as Brand Partners, Contracting, Executive and Commercial Business Directors, District Sales Managers, Professional Sales Specialists, Field Medical (MSL’s), Managed Markets and Corporate Partners appropriate for their scope of business at the national and regional levels. Attainment of management objectives will require knowledge of, and/or a background in, practice economics within the buy & bill model, science/medicine, fluency with various customer environments, biologic access and reimbursement landscape to include inpatient and outpatient and the drug selection process combined with strong communication and interpersonal skills and executive presence with internal and external customers. Effective execution of AstraZeneca respiratory biologic products/programs will require extensive efforts in system wide strategy, customer education, relationship building, effective communication and analytical problem solving with internal, external and co-promotional partner(s).

Specific Duties

The Respiratory Biologics Director (RBD) will be responsible for leading and managing a team of Respiratory Biologic Managers in executing AstraZeneca’s Biologics portfolio programs (HCP volume based rebates, spoilage and replacement, Buy & Bill practice processes) to targeted HCPs and alternative systems of care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:
Recruiting/Hiring: The RBD is responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring qualified candidates to fill all team vacancies.

Buy & Bill Business Acumen: The RBD is required to have a robust understanding of the influences, dynamics and drivers related to the Buy & Bill process and practice economic experience in biologics utilization to include cost and budgetary considerations (Account Receivabales).

Strategic and Tactical Execution:

Develop/Execute Management Objectives and Priorities: The RBD will be expected to help develop and achieve personal and team management objectives while staying within assigned budgets.

Developing and executing geographical management/business plans: The RBD will be responsible for ensuring effective targeting and prioritization of key customers for the execution of the AstraZeneca Respiratory Biologics programs. Business planning process will be developed and executed with all team members including, but not limited to, individual accounts, marketing overview, targeted personnel, key opportunities, implementation plan and budget allocation.

Maximizes time in field with Respiratory Biologic Managers and visiting customer accounts
Facilitating appropriate utilization of Patient Access programs: Ensuring appropriate patient access to approved products via available patient access programs such as Access 360, MAP, AZ&Me, distribution information

Maintaining effective, on-going communication with all appropriate geographical teams and stakeholders. Individual in this position will be expected to initiate and maintain a high level of effective, two-way communication with the Brand Partners, Contracting, Executive and Commercial Business Directors, District Sales Managers, Professional Sales Specialists, Field Medical (MSL’s), Managed Markets and Corporate Partners regarding activities and results. Appropriate and timely use of all available communication channels is expected

Actively participating in customer related and internal activities. Activities may include, but are not limited to: (1) developing and executing action plans to meet customer needs and the business objectives of AstraZeneca Biologics; (2) identifying strengths/weaknesses of available biologic programs and support; (3) constantly and consistently identifying or refining personal development needs and opportunities; and (4) initiate conflict resolution using negotiation skills to explore positions, alternatives, and solutions to reach outcomes that gain support and acceptance of all parties.

Tracking market intelligence that may positively or adversely affect AstraZeneca marketing practices and business. This includes constantly monitoring the competitive environment (e.g., new product entrants) and/or any healthcare policy changes/initiatives, which may impact AstraZeneca’s market position.

Developing and maintaining favorable customer relationships. This includes identifying and utilizing internal resources to meet customer needs, fostering interdependence, and developing each customer as an advocate for AstraZeneca’s FDA approved products.

Administrative Business Management:
Overseeing and compliance to budget parameters while accomplishing established goals and objectives.

Reviewing expense reports - must know and follow all policies and procedures and utilize effective time management skills to meet established deadlines for administrative and required reports from Home Office and the Market Access Executive Director.

Needs to be skilled in all reporting systems and platforms - ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all data and information through the system.

Development and utilization of training for team members on sales data use, along with knowing how to read, interpret, analyze and develop sales reports and projections is expected.

Responsible to write and deliver performance appraisals and salary plans on time to all direct reports.

Required to deal efficiently and effectively with personnel issues in conjunction with their Executive Director and the Human Resources Department.

May also be extensively involved in expansion geography planning

Ability to participate or present at industry meetings/conferences
Thoroughly understand and operate within all applicable rules and regulations outlined within the Code of Conduct, the AZ US Policy Handbook, other relevant policies and procedures, and applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulations.

Supervision of Others:
Total number of individuals reporting to this position: 5-10

Travel Requirements
Travel will be extensive as this role is national in scope. Overnight, multi-night, and/or weekend travel will be required to accomplish desired objectives. The RBD will be expected to be able to attend company meetings and use the company-mandated forms of transportation to and from those meetings.

Essential Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree; preferably in Science, Business or Management
• 8+ years of total business experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical/biotech industry
• 3+ years of proven, successful buy & bill program experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Medical Products industry
• 5+ years of sales management experience is required
• Expertise in Management By Objective development and implementation
• Strong written, oral and presentation skills is strongly preferred
• Travel is required

Desirable Requirements:

• Home office experience/rotation in Sales Training, Marketing, Operations, etc. preferred
• Biologic Infectious Disease, Pulmonology/Respiratory, Inflammation, Cardiovascular experience.
• Strong record of successful team leadership and performance
• Experience with business planning and market analysis.
• Experience in implementing biologic buy & bill practice level programs and support.
