Job Description

This position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, this position will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

Requirements

  • A highly motivated laboratory research technician with experience in bioinformatics and computation is being sought to join a research laboratory working on breast cancer. The ideal candidate will be part of several projects in breast cancer that are studying various aspects of tumor genetics, epigenetics, and heterogeneity. The person will be primarily responsible for the analysis of large volumes of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and deriving meaningful biological insights under the active supervision of the PI and postdocs in the lab. The position also provides an opportunity to be an author in publications in high-impact journals.


  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual with a BS/MS BA or BS or MSc degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or any other quantitative/biological discipline with a strong background in programming/coding. Proficiency in R and in at least Python (preferable) or Perl is imperative. Skill for basic file manipulation and compilation from source codes using terminal in a Unix environment is required. Basic knowledge about genetics/genomics/epigenetics is required. Basic knowledge about biostatistics is required.

    Should be detail oriented and vigilant about the methods used and the results generated from data analysis. Previous experience with large-scale data and NGS data would be considered a plus. Previous research experience (preferably in cancer) would be considered a plus. In addition to technical and scientific knowledge, this individual should have good organizational and interpersonal skills. Mentorship and training will be provided to individuals interested in pursuing MD and/or PhD degrees following this position.
